The Brian Merrilees Lecture: “The Ethical Turn in Literary Criticism: A Brilliant New Approach or an Assault on the Humanities?”
William Calin (University of Florida)
Current approaches to literary studies react against formalism and deconstruction. One of these is the so-called Ethical Turn. In his talk, Professor Calin examines this ethical approach while discussing Francois Rabelais, Louis Aragon, the Breton-language writer Roparz Hemon, Paul de Man, and The Song of Roland.
