The online library has generated much excitement among researchers and librarians in the academic world, because it offers access to authoritative copyright material that goes beyond the “unmediated” nature of the worldwide web. This access is universal and perpetual, available equally to all library users in a system or institution, regardless of location. Any item in the collection is available to all users simultaneously, and sophisticated search tools allow for quick location of items of interest. In 2005, Gibson Library Connections launched the Canadian Electronic Library (CEL), with the aim of bringing books and monographs published in Canada into this environment.
PIMS Publications and the Canadian Electronic Library
The Institute has released its entire catalogue of in-print publications up to 2008 on the ebrary platform through the Canadian Electronic Library. This provides all researchers, in medieval studies but also in a wide range of other disciplines, working in authorized libraries with instant access to every title licensed. A core collection of 248 PIMS titles is now in every university library in Canada as a result of a license with the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (a list of all member universities is available). Users can view all PIMS titles in the CEL Preview Site.

Acquiring PIMS Books Online
There are many ways for libraries to acquire PIMS ebooks online. If you're an individual researcher, ask your library to establish an account with CEL or ebrary. Once your library has an ebrary account or channel in place, any title may be acquired instantly using eBOP, ebrary's online ordering platform. Or you may place orders through ebrary's international network of resellers. To arrange for a trial or demo, please contact CEL.
