Concert: “Transeamus: A medieval Christmas pilgrimage”
Sine Nomine
The first concert of the season.
Transeamus usque Bethlehem, “Let us go to Bethlehem” - the shepherds’ first impulse, on hearing the angels’ announcement of the birth of Christ, was to move toward the source of their new joy, and this movement toward the manger infuses the medieval devotional music of the Advent and Christmas seasons. Our own journey in this programme takes us through England, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy, with a wealth of vocal and instrumental music from courts, chapels, and monastic houses.
