Dr Dan Armstrong earned his PhD in Medieval History at the University of St Andrews under the supervision of Professor John Hudson. His dissertation was entitled “Anglo-Papal Relations, c.1066–c.1135” and it was funded by the European Research Council. Before joining PIMS, Dr Armstrong was a Royal Historical Society Centenary Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research (London) and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews. He published his first article in the Haskins Society Journal on “The Norman Conquest of England, the Papacy, and the Papal Banner.” Dr Armstrong is the co-editor of Borders and the Norman World: Frontiers and Boundaries in Medieval Europe, which is due to be published in December 2023 by The Boydell Press. At PIMS, Dr Armstrong will continue his work on papal relations with north-western Europe by researching papal communications with queens and countesses in the Anglo-Norman and Angevin World.
