Cristiana Filippini
Dr. Cristiana Filippini (Laurea in Lettere, History of Art, University of Florence; MA and PhD, Johns Hopkins University) is Professor of Art History at the Trinity College (Hartford), Rome Campus. Her research focuses on the art of medieval Rome, with particular emphasis on pictorial narrative strategies in the papal city. As a Visiting Scholar, she will complete a monograph on the eleventh-century hagiographic frescoes in the early Christian basilica of San Clemente in Rome, a subject that has long been central to her research. These frescoes constitute a major work of art produced during a crucial phase in the history of the Roman Church and the socio-political transformation of medieval Rome. The project aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the San Clemente frescoes while reassessing established historical categories and interpretative frameworks.
