Dorner Telescope Museum Announced
R.A. Rosenfeld, of Sine Nomine, the Institute’s Ensemble-in-Residence, has been named the inaugural Director of the Dorner Telescope Museum of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
The museum is named after Kitchener-based businessman Rudolph Dorner, the founding donor. His gift of $1.5 million is the largest single gift in the history of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. The museum’s mission is to discover, record, and effectively present the history of the telescope in Canada from the 17th century to the present, by forming a world-class institution to “tell the story” of the instruments, their makers, and their users. The Dorner Telescope Museum is planned to be artifact-rich, but with a robust interactive aspect to the museum experience it will offer.
