John Gallagher
For 2025–2026, John is a Post-doctoral Mellon Fellow at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. While at PIMS, John is investigating matters of style, methodology, and textual criticism in the biblical exegesis of the Venerable Bede. John gained a PhD from the University of St Andrews where he was awarded the Samuel Rutherford Thesis Prize for the most distinguished thesis in English, Scottish History, or Theology. He has held teaching and research fellowships at University College Dublin, the University of Oxford, the University of St Andrews, and the University of Perugia, Italy. Additionally, John is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of St Andrews and is actively involved with the Orthodox Academy of Crete and Medievalists.net for whom he regularly delivers courses on medieval and biblical literature. During his tenure at PIMS, he is pursuing a Pontifical Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies under the guidance of Dr. Tristan Major and Dr. Greti Dinkova-Bruun.
