Julie Glodt

Julie Glodt earned her PhD in Medieval Art History at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris. Her thesis, entitled “L’environnement textile de l’autel (ca. 1250–ca.1550) : une histoire ritologique de l’art” [“The Textile Environment of the Altar (ca. 1250–ca. 1550): A Ritual History of Art”], was written under the supervision of Philippe Plagnieux (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Alain Rauwel (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales). She has published peer-reviewed articles in the journals Bulletin Monumental, Religion and the Arts and Revue d’Histoire de l’Eglise de France, as well as four book chapters. She coedited the conference proceedings Textiles, Rituels, Images (Europe occidentale, XIIIe–XVIIe siècles) [Textiles, Rituals, Images (Western Europe, 13th–17th century)] with Juliette Brack and Nicolas Sarzaud. During her time at PIMS, she will be looking at communion wafers, chalices, patens, corporals and palls in 15th century Western Europe. By studying their materiality, ornamentation, values and uses in a relational way, she aims to highlight and discuss a late medieval paradigmatic shift in the conception and performance of the Eucharistic ritual.
