In collaboration with the Canadian Society for Coptic Studies the NMC will be hosting a spring public lecture with Dr Linda Northrup on Friday May 24, 2019 in the NMC conference room. Refreshments will follow the lecture.
Linda Northrup received her PhD from the Institute of Islamic Studies (History) at McGill University in 1983. She has been Associate Professor, Middle Eastern and Islamic History, in the Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations since 1990, serving as Chair from 2006-2011. Dr Northrup’s talk will explore the role of Mamluk Sultan’s tomb-madrasa-hospital complex in Cairo with the status of Christians (Copts?) in medieval Egypt.
