Massimiliano Vitiello Named Curators’ Distinguished Professor

Massimiliano Vitiello (Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies, PIMS, 2009) has been awarded the highest academic rank in the University of Missouri system.

Each year, the University of Missouri Board of Curators gives this prestigious academic rank to a select few outstanding scholars with established reputations.

Massimiliano Vitiello, Professor of History and Classics at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, is a scholar of ancient history, late antiquity, Byzantium and the early middle ages, with an emphasis in Roman history. During his time at PIMS he worked on an extension and rethinking of earlier research on political thought in late antiquity, a commentary and translation of some of the letters of Cassiodorus, and an investigation of Justinian and Italy.
