PIMS
Long weekends are traditionally hives of activity at the Institute: presidents, fellows, and staff are found working eagerly away on the transformation of the world, or at least the world of medieval studies.

Professor John Munro, among the world’s leading authorities on late medieval and early modern monetary, financial, and industrial history, died on 23 December 2013.

The Doctor of Divinity degree, honoris causa, will be conferred on James K. McConica, CSB at the University of St Michael’s College Faculty of Theology and Continuing Education Convocation on 2 November 2013.

The Institute will soon be celebrating its 2013 Convocation for the conferring of the Licence in Mediaeval Studies and Diploma in Manuscript Studies.

The Royal Society of Canada has awarded James P. Carley, a fellow of the RSC, Associate Fellow at the Institute, and Distinguished Research Professor at York University, the Pierre Chauveau Medal for his remarkable contributions to the humanities.
In memoriam
Don Faustino Avagliano, OSB, one of the most illustrious doctores honoris causa of the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, died unexpectedly during the night of 4–5 September 2013.

Professor Brian Merrilees, the consulting editor for Medieval French Literature for the Department of Publications since 2008, died on 6 September 2013.

The Rome Prize is awarded annually to about thirty candidates, each selected by a jury of distinguished peers through a national competition.

At the annual meeting of the Fédération Internationale des Instituts d'Études Médiévales held at Porto in June, Greti Dinkova-Bruun, Institute Librarian, was elected vice-president.

The Initiative’s website, recently relaunched, features a calendar of principal humanities events on campus, and its online archive and publications provides access to a wide range of research in the humanities globally.
